Cecília Lima
Rehearsal for a Menhir
2017–2019
Installation
Plaster, steel cable
Variable dimensions
Menhirs were monoliths where nomadic peoples made inscriptions about travel routes and religious rituals. A tower composed of blocks of colored plaster and their respective steel cables was installed at one end of the University of Brasília, Brazil. The blocks are dragged across the entire terrain of the Darcy Ribeiro campus, UnB, to three other ends that contain bases awaiting the blocks, borderline points of a quadrant where the action takes place. The blocks, worn down by the journey, become construction units for other towers, menhirs with the information acquired from the different surfaces I traverse with the blocks.
