A series of devices spin candy wrappers under the beam of a flashlight in a darkened space. The speed and silvery reflections of the wrappers—objects that would normally be discarded—evoke flying saucers or futuristic ballerinas, twirling in the gallery’s darkness. Light and shadow unveil new layers of the material used in candy wrappers (in this case, Lindt chocolates). Ballerinas is an ode to matter that continues to vibrate even after the end of its useful life, revealing the value of something so ordinary, yet capable of holding reflections, gleams, and sounds for those willing to unfold a crumpled piece of paper destined for the trash.
